Acoustic solutions
In a full hall nobody can make themselves understood. That happens because hard, smooth surfaces send the sound back instead of absorbing it, so it hangs in the room.
Why a room reverberates
The acoustics of a room depend on how much sound is absorbed and how much is reflected by the ceiling, the walls and whatever else is in the room. The size of the room counts too.
A rough or soft finish absorbs sound. A smooth or hard finish reflects it. When sound waves keep bouncing it takes a while for the sound to die away, and that is what you hear as an echo or reverberation.
What the sheet does
The acoustic ceilings and walls SPANdesign makes are soft. The sheet is perforated with absorption behind it, so sound is taken in rather than sent back. That removes the reflections that make talking and concentrating hard work.
The acoustic treatment sits behind the sheet. None of it is visible at the ceiling.
The hard numbers
- Microsorber perforation for sound absorption
- The perforated foils reach high acoustic values
- The absorption sits behind the sheet and stays out of sight
- Works on curved and irregular ceilings, with the shape still visible
- Combines with lighting, climate control and sprinkler systems
- Fire class B-s2-d0, non-toxic and free of heavy metals

Other products
- Stretch ceilingA made-to-measure sheet pulled taut across the whole room. No seams, no ceiling tiles working loose.
- Stretched wallsThe same technique turned vertical. It covers an old or uneven wall and works on the acoustics at the same time.
- Light fittings and objectsLight behind the sheet, or an object hung free. The ceiling becomes the light source.
Common questions about this room
What is possible acoustically?
The acoustic ceilings use a Microsorber perforation that works as sound absorption. That removes the reflections and echoes that get in the way of communication and concentration. The acoustic solution itself stays invisible, so the design stays free.
What are the design options?
Our stretch solutions have countless applications across all kinds of styles. The number of shapes is unlimited: horizontal, vertical, curved, angled and 3D. There is a wide choice of colour and pattern, and the systems come in many versions.
Is it easy to maintain?
Yes. Fitting and removing is simple, so you can always reach your ceiling. The stretch ceilings are easy to clean and antistatic, so they stay dust free.
How large can a single sheet be?
Up to roughly 50 m² we make a ceiling from one sheet. Larger surfaces are divided into panels. All foils are available with different perforations, and all our products have been tested by TNO to fire class 1.
Are your stretch products safe?
Yes. All our stretch products are non-toxic and free of heavy metals. They are not flammable and meet fire class B-s2-d0. Our products are also hypoallergenic.
What does a stretch ceiling cost, roughly?
Most projects we take on are between 20,000 and 50,000 euro, and large halls and swimming pools run to 100,000 to 250,000 euro. What your room costs depends on its area, its shape and what has to sit in the ceiling. We do not take on a project under 20,000 euro.
